Bashfully Bedazzling by Charles Asher

"Bashfully Bedazzling" Oil on Canvas 18 x 24

Abstract of a Japanese Girl strolling in the rain.

As I waited for seating in a restaurant located on the 4th floor of a hotel in Tokyo, I  gazed out a large picture window that overlooked the city and streets below. Cloudy and raining, raindrops ran down the window giving the view a somewhat sad, blurry look.

On the street below, I watched a young woman slowly walking down the avenue. Blurry from raindrops streaming down the window, I saw her in an abstract form as if her body, dress, and umbrella lacked detail. At one point, the sun broke out and sparkled parts of her umbrella and clothing. That vision so impressed me that it stuck in my mind.

Years later, I decided to tackle that vision and paint it.

Here is my first attempt at the beautiful girl in the rain; titled, "Bashfully Bedazzling"

  1. Hey Charlie...
Wonderful time talking to you yesterday.
Had no idea. What's it been... 60 years?
It is nice to discover that my friends from
distant time grew up and succeeded.
