Small Wonders Show - Many Faces of Barbie

Today, November 13, 2010, Procissi Cellars in conjunction with the Sutter Street Artists will host the "Small Wonders Show" at 627 Sutter Street in Historic Folsom. Come on down and check out the small wonders. The show will be on display until the end of November.

I chose to paint small portraits of Barbie. They are 12" x 12" oil on canvas. I hope you enjoy them.

Above and looking down on these little wonders is my painting, Taboo. This steely blue eyed and pout lipped woman will knock you out. She's painted 24" x 30" oil on canvas and framed in a blond birch frame.

Vogue Cover Girl 1919 - At The Beach

Vogue Cover Girl from 1919 (I call) "A Day At The Beach." I wanted to actually feel the era. The dreams, the smiles in the mirror, so to speak. Never an ugliness - stylized beauty, staring, pouting, perfect. The ladies of Vogue. This is the first one. I want to do two more. I have fancy frames already to go.

Technically, it is a simple painting. I washed the umbella area with a thin white to tone down the color; that was a first for me, and I like that technique -it's quick and it works. I worked the skin tones the most by blending reds, browns, and yellows with white. The rest is mostly color over color. I had a blast doing the painting. I hope you enjoy. Charlie

Twisted

It is all about attitude. Bringing forth the attitude, the emotional stance. When you're young you work at it, dress for it, live it.
Here she is in all her glory.
"Beauty moody defiant, radiant in her open blouse impertinence, her curled lips and sultry eyes dare you - TWISTED."

"Interiorscapes" Juried Art Show September 17th

Art Show Invitation: Everyone please join me for the opening reception, Friday, September 17, 6-8 pm. There will be live music and refreshments. The show will be held at the Gallery at 48 Natoma (address, 48 Natoma)

I have included my "Night Fears" painting, which doesn't do it justice because the colors are muted, plus the original is 36 x 36 inches -- large, imposing, and scary. Come see it for real. It comes with a poem: Shadows dripping shade on jagged edges frayed. Frozen panic staring as the snake tastes dread - blue darkness dead. A warped hand yanks at the light to chase away the NIGHT-FEARS.

Hope to see you there. Charlie

Witchy Woman

I present to you ...Witchy Woman. At least that is the name for now. I considered others: A Restless Spirit, Light My Fire, Fire Dancer, Spooky, and Spooky Girl, and others. If another title comes to you, please, let me know about it. I would consider it an honor to hear your interpretation through a title.

It is not a perfect pic: there are flash reflections on her left leg. But that gives the real color makeup of her silhouette---Prussian Blue and Manganese Violet.

She is born of the fire, and is part of it. You could say she is dancing fire, or dancing smoke . The next time you look into a fire, feel the heat, and watch the wispy smoke swirl within and away, look for her - she's there.
